Wish for job or PhD? The keys for success

Success Magazine (Issue about Herbalife)

"Herbalife is helping more people faster than ever before." The company's growth in sales over the years from US$2 million in the 1980 to US$3 billion in 2006 indicates that more products are being consumed by more and more people globally. The wellness industry is decidedly experiencing growth in Jamaica; notably, Herbalife Jamaica is one of the leaders in wellness. The annual volume of products sold by Herbalife Jamaica increased by eight-two percent (82%) in 2006. There are over four thousand (4000) Jamaican Herbalife distributors and hundreds of nutrition clubs across the island. Herbalife Jamaica has the top retention rate of distributors; we are first among sixty-five (65) countries in retaining distributors in the Herbalife business.

At the Herbalife Opportunity Meeting (HOM) yesterday, the MC reminded us that a job usually means "Just Over Broke". [I don't remember hearing this acronym before then.] She reiterated that "It's only a very skillful person that can make their dreams come true - in a job." Moreover, let me add that a full-time job also involves limited freedom and flexibility to spend time with family, friends and charitable activities.

The MC quoted Jim Rohn, "For things to change, we have to change. For things to get better, we have to get better. Don't ask for less problems, ask for more skills."

Button for Herbalife Distributors

The Herbalife Opportunity meeting included persons with different backgrounds who fired their boss to become professional Herbalife distributors: a minimum wage fast food worker, a lawyer, a dressmaker, and a pharmacist. Anyone who chooses to become a Herbalife distributor can do so; it just takes desire. A man who had gained weight using Herbalife products noted that you should put what you learn into practice right away. Don't wait.... Identify your next step. Be a Herbalife Distributor, if you're not one already. Create a daily method of operation and put your plan into action. As Herbalife says, "Dream it. Do it."

Since I've been attending Herbalife meetings in Jamaica this year, I've learned that you are more likely to achieve your dreams as a PhD than with a job. I've decided to keep both in my life to achieve my personal goals. I contribute to society both as a lecturer at a university as well as a Professional Herbalife Distributor (PhD). (I still haven't decided whether I want to acquire a doctorate one day.) But I decidedly want to be successful as a wellness / weight-loss coach in Herbalife.

The 2006 Herbalife annual report notes the keys to become a successful distributor:

"Each distributor's success is dependent on two primary factors: (1) the time, effort and commitment a distributor puts into his or her Herbalife business.
(2) the product sales made by a distributor and his/her sales organization."

Distributor Motivation and Training
"We believe that motivation and training are key elements in distributor success and that we and our distributor supervisors have established a consistent schedule of events to support these needs. We and our distributor leadership conduct thousands of training sessions annually on local, regional and global levels to educate and motivate our distributors....

"In addition to these training sessions, we have our own 'Herbalife Broadcast Network' that is used to provide distributors continual training and the most current product and marketing information. HBN can be seen on the Internet.

Distributor reward and recognition is a significant factor in motivating our distributors. In 2006, we invested over $60 million in worldwide events and promotions to motivate our distributors to achieve and exceed both sales and recruiting goals. Examples of our worldwide promotions are the vacations and the Active World Team Promotions...." Annual Report, Herbalife International
